Solar Power 101 for Your Home or Business
Solar panels, each made up of dozens of photovoltaic cells, convert light to electricity. More light will generate more electricity, but even on cloudy days the solar panels produce plenty of power. The power from the solar cells is direct current or DC power.
The inverter converts DC to alternating current or AC power.
The optional battery provides backup power if your house isn’t on the power grid or experiences frequent power outages.
With net metering, the meter “spins backwards” whenever your home or business generates more power than it uses. In Oregon, your power company credits you the same rate you pay for your power. Learn more about net metering:
